Watercolor Genres
Watercolor painting became popular in the US around the middle of the 19th century. The American Society of Painters in Watercolor was founded in 1866. Many innovations where stimulated by the popularity of watercolors. Heavier and more heavily sized wove papers and brushes where some of them. Watercolor tutorials also had their first appearance during this time.
Watercolor is particularly popular with Botanical artists. Its unique ability to summarize,clarify and idealize in full color is the driving factor for that.
